Dr. Blumenthal was appointed as the head of HIT by President Barack Obama in March 2009. During his tenure, he served as an integral part in driving and implementing a nationwide transformation from paper records to electronic health records and helped execute a $27 billion incentive program designed to help physician practices and hospitals to install the necessary technology.
Dr. Blumenthal made huge strides in the implementation of President Obama’s vision of a vastly improved health care system.
He plans to return to his teaching post at Harvard University in the spring.
